The price of your camera, its features & functions, and all the bells & whistles in the world are NOT what makes a beautiful photograph. It is not the camera that finds the right angle, that fights the shadows & lighting, that contort to strange positions to get THAT shot. So when you see my camera, feel free to admire it (I do!) but know that while the camera captures & stores the photograph, it is I that made the photograph. Please understand when you do make some such comment that my smile & nod is not being rude, but being polite enough to not point out just how wrong you are.
I also get told, “You don’t look/dress like a photographer.” This puzzles me. What exactly is a photographer supposed to look like? I’m sure my clothing may look plain but I promise you, that doesn’t mean I take plain photos. There are so many angles to get and in a dress or suit I can not bend, stretch or reach to get the best shots. Please don’t judge me based on how I look. That doesn’t define my skill.
