When Photographing Children. . . .

Children are such a beautiful blessing. From the giggles that can warm any day to their shrill screams as they run & play; it all makes for magic! <3 But when it comes to taking pictures children can either be camera hams & steal the light in every photo or become shy introverts that would rather sit on their hands in a corner & cry. Both, are perfectly fine!
Most every parent has concern when it comes to having photos done and if ever you worry or question, don’t EVER hesitate to talk with your photographer about your babies. And if the rambunctious tykes get to be too wild & crazy, your photographer won’t hesitate to ask about distracting them with a toy to get the right sitting or smile to peek out. You want to look back on your photos & say “That’s my baby, always so silly/bashful/full of laughs.” & not thinking of how they had to be reprimanded. Just let them be themselves.
From time to time I’ve run into families who become frustrated when the Littles don’t sit just right, squirm, cry or whine. It happens, they’re kids. It doesn’t make my job any more difficult, I promise. If anything, scolding your child or fussing over how they’re sitting, where they’re looking or how they’re acting is what makes it harder.
I encourage playing from children actually. Let them be little. Let them play & giggle & have fun. It truly makes for better photos. Even when a child is sulking or shying away it still makes for great photos. It just takes a little extra time for the kids to warm up or calm down & all the right shots WILL be gotten. Plus, when mom or dad start their fretting they start frowning & no one likes fresh frown lines. :-)
